Have you ever wondered what goes into designing and building a great trail?

Come find out with Stowe Youth Cycling! This week will focus on different trail building styles, forest and soil conditions, tools of the trade, and some hands in the dirt building. Each day will start off with a morning ride offering diverse trail conditions and styles from buff flow trails to more technical ‘rake and ride’ type trails.

The afternoon will be spent putting what we learned and observed in the morning into practice. Teaming up with Stowe Trails Partnership and Boulder Trailworks, we will help in the construction of a new section of trail and also learn about the year to year maintenance to keep our trails riding well.

This will be a great opportunity for riders to learn about the trails we enjoy and also build a connection with a specific trail and share in the outdoor recreation community. The “SYC Trail Crew” will leave with printed resources of the building topics covered over the week and a SYC logo tee!

Stowe Youth Cycling and Green Mountain Academy team up to bring you a fun week of bike skills and air awareness and agility!

Each morning, riders will hit the trails with the SYC coaches to practice balance, mobility, and bike handling skills through a variety of drills and on trail progression.

The group will then take these bike skills to an afternoon session with Green Mountain Academy with the goal of building diverse skills to contribute to becoming a well rounded athlete.

Students will be challenged to perform controlled body dynamics through creative movements. These movements include running, jumping, climbing, throwing, catching, vaulting, swinging, balancing, and tumbling/flipping. Training will be fun and engaging, often times using obstacle courses and games to improve on proprioception. We will use a variety of training tools, such as a climbing wall, tumble pads, monkey bars, ninja warrior obstacles, vault blocks, and trampolines. All trampoline training will be strict for safety reasons, students will learn about proper trampoline safety and must perform a variety of fundamental skills before progressing to more advanced maneuvers.

Join us for a four day immersion of the trails around the Kingdom Trails, Burke Mountain, and East Haven.

We will stay in a cabin trailside and spend our days riding various sections of the surrounding trail networks. With such an extensive system of trails, we will have many chances to refine our skills through the day on a wide variety of trail styles and natural features.

In addition to learning the trail systems in the Northeast Kingdom, we will also meet some of the influential people in that area’s mountain bike community. An afternoon will be spent riding with trailbuilder/coach Knight Ide and his Ide Ride team.

Camp price does not include park passes. Current park pass rates below:

  • KTA trail passes - adult ($15) Age 8-15 ($7)

Athlete’s will bring home a SYC logo tee!

A variety of Sender Ramps including: manual machines, table tops, and jumps, will be available in the evenings for use. We’ll also have a ridiculously fun Horizon Hobby RC car to tear around camp!

Join Stowe Youth Cycling and Stowe Land Trust for a  fun and action packed week of mountain biking, forest exploring, and critter catching.

A Stowe Youth Cycling coach will work with the group throughout the day to keep the bike skills fun and safe while still offering progression based instructing.

Mornings will be spent practicing our bike handling skills and learning new trail riding techniques to allow riders to explore further and discover new trails. Stowe Land Trust’s Summer Naturalist will join the group every afternoon to lead an exciting and educational exploration of the area around some of Stowe’s best bike trails. Learn about the flora and fauna you ride by every day – and why it’s important to protect it – or spend time off the bike discovering the natural world around us with Naturalist-guided exploration missions.

Young riders will come away with a better understanding of the forest ecosystem in Stowe and how we all can be responsible recreationists and protect the places we love over the long run.

Do you enjoy the downhill sections of trails in and around Stowe?

Come learn how to approach these trails with the goals of riding smoother and faster.

We will be joined by 2018 CLIFF Enduro Champion Rosy Metcalfe to bring her years of racing and mountain bike experience. Each day we will ride a different area and get to know the trails better through guided trail analysis, skills practice, memory and trail landmark detection, and wrap up each day with a few timed runs.

Skills covered will include: line choice, trail vision, cornering, braking, pressure control, and how to conserve energy and maximize speed for success in enduro and general fun on bikes.

This session provides excellent race preparation for athletes planning to compete in the Vermont Youth Cycling (VTYC) fall race series, the MAXXIS Eastern States Enduro Races, and the Vermont Grassroots Enduro Series.
